Since debuting in the fall of 2024, Broomsedge has earned rave reviews from golf experts and nothing but praise from the golfers who have been lucky enough to play the private course. The South Carolina setting quickly found a spot on Golf Digest’s list of Best New Private Courses in the U.S., which is especially noteworthy because it was designed not by the game’s household names, but instead by Kyle Franz and newcomer Mike Koprowski. Naturally, with such immediate acclaim, we’re all on the edges of our seats wondering what’s next.

Turns out the answer isn’t very far from Broomsedge. Koprowski has teamed with landscape architect and master planner Hart Howerton to design and build the currently unnamed “Course One” at Candyroot Lodge, located on 1,210 acres of beautiful, curvaceous land in the Carolina Sandhills. Currently set for a late 2026 opening, the resort will undoubtedly top myriad lists featuring “best new” and “must-visit” in 2027, and the new course will certainly be a huge reason.

“Candyroot is turning out to be a really old-school test of golf, more than I ever imagined during the pre-construction stages,” Koprowski explained of the process to bring Course One to life. “Every time I think about adding a feature, I realize the land doesn’t need or want it. The greens are small by modern standards and significantly tilted. There’s a relative economy of bunkering, as the native grasses and serpentine fairway lines create most of the strategy. Some drives and approaches are semi-blind, as the landforms are just too beautiful to knock down with a bulldozer. With the entire course benched into the side of a descending sandhill, your eyes constantly lie about what’s uphill and what’s down. The visual misdirection is intense, and I think it’s going to enthrall golfers.”

Obviously, a temporary name like Course One implies a plan to add even more golf to the Sandhills. Proprietors Ethan and Aaron Oberman plan to eventually offer guests four championship 18-hole courses, as well as a Par-3 course for night play. The resort will ultimately offer an exceptional vacation wellness experience, from a world class facilities for recovery and training to long trails that guests can use for fitness or simply admiring the scenery.

Players will be able to preview Course One in November ahead of the grand opening in 2027.
