One of the hardest things about planning the “great Caribbean golf getaway” is that most islands don’t offer a lot of options for playing. Sure, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic boast enough courses to fill an entire week’s itinerary and then some, but the smaller islands simply don’t offer the same variety. However, that’s not to say there aren’t some worthwhile destinations that can wow you with one course and so much beyond it.
Take Grand Cayman, for example. Home to one of the best beaches in the Caribbean — if not the entire planet — this island has only one choice for those of us who pack our sticks: North Sound Golf Club. Now, this is hardly a bad choice. In fact, it’s one of the better options in the region, but combined with Seven Mile Beach, popular spots like Smith’s Barcadere and Macabuca, and the food and nightlife offered at Camana Bay, this is an exceptional play and stay experience. Especially with the recent opening of Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman.
Visitors and locals alike were buzzing like crazy about this stylish new 288-room property property when I was on island last November, so it goes without saying that the energy was through the roof when the doors opened last month. That’s probably because the hotel is home to Grand Cayman’s newest rooftop bar, Pom Pom, but there’s plenty more to enjoy at sea level.
That starts with the phenomenal pool deck, which — as anyone who has traveled to Grand Cayman knows — is one of the most important amenities under the sun, literally. Here, location is everything, so a spot on Seven Mile Beach already matters above all else, but from there it’s all about enjoying the views from the right lounge chairs. Two infinity pools are separated by a selfie-worthy waterfall, with one pool for adults only and the other for families, making this an ideal property for either type of traveler.

Everyone should also know that Grand Cayman is a foodie’s paradise, with not one but two annual festivals that pack the island. There’s already a mouth-watering international culinary influence across this setting, and Hotel Indigo adds to that with the California coastal concept Catalina, the Asian-inspired sushi joint Milkberry, and Rasa, or “Blank Slate,” which boasts rotating global dining concepts.
Set right next to Governor’s Beach, as well as sister property Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa, Hotel Indigo is a 5-minute ride from North Sound Golf Club, which is fantastic for anyone who wants to play 18 and then get back to cocktails at the poolside Bata Bar.
